Parallel Constant Watt Heating Cable FP™
Freeze Protection or Process Temperature Maintenance FP parallel resistance constant watt heating cables are designed to provide freeze protection or process temperature maintenance to piping, tanks and equipment. The parallel resistance configuration allows the cable to be cut to length and terminated in the field with easy-to-use Thermon supplied kits.
Parallel Constant Watt Heating Cable FP provide consistent and reliable heat outputs regardless of circuit length. Because FP cables are not subject to the inrush current associated with self-regulating heating cables, the need for oversizing power distribution equipment is eliminated.

Thermon’s FP™ Parallel Constant Watt Heating Cables are highly reliable industrial solutions engineered specifically for freeze protection, frost-heave prevention (such as in cryogenic storage tank foundations), and process temperature maintenance of piping, tanks, and mechanical equipment.
Unlike self-regulating cables, the FP™ series delivers a completely consistent and predictable heat output per meter regardless of the circuit length or the pipe’s operating temperature.
1. Key Engineering Advantages
- Zero Inrush Current: Because the resistance of the nichrome heating element remains stable, FP™ cables experience absolutely no high inrush current upon cold startup. This eliminates the need to oversize power distribution systems, breakers, and contactors—saving significant capital costs during infrastructure design.
- Cut-to-Length Flexibility: Designed with parallel circuitry, the cable can be cut to length and completely terminated in the field using standard Thermon supplied kits. This simplifies layout planning and field installations.
- Longer Circuit Runs: The massive internal bus wires (typically up to 12 AWG or $3.3 \text{ mm}^2$) allow for exceptionally long circuit lengths—reaching up to 399 meters on higher voltage feeds—which greatly minimizes the required number of power connection points.
- High Temperature Tolerance: While designed to maintain process temperatures up to 65°C, it features an impressive maximum continuous exposure temperature of 204°C (Power-Off), allowing the piping network to withstand periodic high-temperature operations like steam purging.
